Major Edmund Cottle Weeks, a native of Massachusetts, was an officer in the Union army assigned to the Second Florida Cavalry Regiment. He moved to Florida immediately after the Civil War. As a Republican, he became active in Florida politics during the reconstruction period. He represented Leon County in the state legislature in 1877 and then again in 1885.
